San Francisco, CA: Saiwaii Ramen

Another decent ramen place in the city! Saves a drive to the south bay, yay! Isn’t their logo cute as a button? Makes ya hungry doesn’t it? Ha.

Cozy restaurant. The menu includes ramen and appetizers, small plates, etc. Their signature ramen is their hakata garlic broth which isn’t too shabby. Nice and flavorful and very garlicky.

I think this was my third visit when I noticed something new: Mala flavor! When the ramen arrived there was much excitement! Lots of toppings; spinach, chicken karage and flavored egg. Don’t let the glowing orange oil fool you…it’s not as spicy as mala supposed to be. This is definitely
on the milder side of mala. Kinda lacking in the numbing pepper department. Mild yet still tasty and flavorful. You can certainly taste the other ingredients like garlic, star of anise and cloves. I’d come back for the mala broth.
